Abstract

Wayne Bradshaw used literary and historical research techniques to explore connections between the mid-nineteenth-century German philosopher, Max Stirner, and the development of avant-garde and modernist manifestos in Europe and England. He confirmed that Stirner's ideas about individuality helped to justify manifesto writing practices throughout the early twentieth century.
